Yoga for Older Beginners
Yoga for Older Beginners
A day of yoga to introduce beginners to key yoga poses (asana) with clear instructions on how to get in and out of each pose safely and easily. Yoga props will be used throughout and poses can be adapted to suit people’s unique needs. Pranayama (breathing techniques) is a key part of a yoga practice. Deeper breathing and the synchronisation of movement with the breath helps connect the mind and body. It also develops a greater sense of body awareness. The primary objective of yoga is to prepare the mind and body for meditation. So once you’ve experienced some key poses and breathing techniques we will practice a simple meditation. A handout will be provided to help people continue practicing at home. Throughout the day I will provide advice on the benefits of each pose and how they can be adapted to suit an individual’s circumstances. This course will provide a good introduction to all aspects of yoga. During the day you will learn key yoga poses, breathing techniques, simple meditation and finish with a guided relaxation.
Ideal for anyone who wants to try yoga but thought they were too old to start. No need to be flexible to take part as we will be using yoga props to help modify poses. By the end of the day you will have the confidence to attend a regular class.
Zoë Harris is a very experienced Yoga Therapist and Teacher, having practiced various styles of yoga for over 20 years. Her love of yoga and her own experience of using it to alleviate sciatica and stress, fed her enthusiasm to want to learn more. Whilst working full time in the public sector, Zoë trained for 2 years to be awarded a 500 hour yoga teacher training diploma from the very reputable Devon School of Yoga in 2013. She then went on to train as a Yoga Therapist, which enables her to use yoga techniques in a therapeutic way. As a therapist she uses the tools and techniques of yoga on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, to help alleviate the symptoms of many common health conditions and improve wellbeing.
Zoë is a self-confessed anatomy geek and incorporates that knowledge along with her experience in yoga therapy into her classes, workshops and retreats. Her delivery style is friendly and down-to-earth using everyday language to explain yoga techniques. Zoë’s belief that yoga is suitable for everybody; enables her to offer modifications to poses to enable all abilities to take part and experience the benefits of the discipline.
