Description

Watercolour students often struggle to mix effectively punchy darks and apply them well.

Providing both the technical information needed to achieve this and the practical application of this information, this course is for students who possess a basic knowledge of the medium designed to help overcome what is a very common problem in watercolour that of not mixing really effective darks. These punchy darks are essential in order to produce paintings that have good tonal contrasts and without them many potentially good paintings often appear flat and lifeless.

A surprisingly small amount of technical knowledge can solve the problem and there will be advice on how and when to use these darks for maximum effect.

Residential Fees From: £348.   Non Residential: £233

Tutor information

Clare DuVergier is a well-known painter in the South West and lives in a remote area in the Quantock Hills. She trained both as an actress and as a teacher and her first job at the Northcott Theatre in Exeter instilled a great love of the local landscape. In 1990 having followed a number of career paths she returned to the South West and to a full time career in painting in 2000. She has exhibited at a number of galleries in the South West and Scotland and for many years as part of SAW (Somerset Art Week). She is now much in demand as a lively teacher of traditional watercolour. She works primarily with watercolour and occasionally in oils and mixed media. Her paintings are diverse and include both figurative and abstract works with a particular interest in colour and light.
