Our subject for this study day is the idiosyncratic English painter, Stanley Spencer.

Over the course of the day, we will survey his life and prodigious output as a painter and designer. One of the lectures will focus on the murals Spencer painted for the Sandham memorial chapel in Burghclere.

Tutor information

Dr Angie Smith has a first class degree in Art History and a PhD in Combined Historical Studies from London University. She spent many years teaching undergraduate and adult education programmes for Leicester University. She is an accredited lecturer with the Arts
Society, has published widely, contributed to history programmes on tv and lectured for several cruise lines. Her interest outside history and art include gardening and genealogy.
