These illustrated lectures will consider the phenomenon of transportation in detail and will be built around the experiences of various individuals including the lecturer’s ancestor who was sent to Australia in 1830.

We will examine the journey of transportees in detail and consider some of the many and varied record types that are available for researchers to use. The study day will be of particular use to family historians and those with an interest in social history.

Tutor information

Dr Angie Smith has a first class degree in Art History and a PhD in Combined Historical Studies from London University. She spent many years teaching undergraduate and adult education programmes for Leicester University. She is an accredited lecturer with the Arts
Society, has published widely, contributed to history programmes on tv and lectured for several cruise lines. Her interest outside history and art include gardening and genealogy.
