Women Artists of the 1600’s
Description
Many women found fame and a measure of fortune as artists in Europe in the 17th century including the Flemish painter, Michaelina Wautier, and Dutch woman, Judith Leyster.
In the course we will also be examining the careers and works of Italian artists including Artemisia Gentileschi and Elisabetta Sirani, English portraitist Mary Beale and Spanish sculptor, Luisa Roldan.
Ideal for anyone with an interest in the visual arts (specifically painting and sculpture), as well as an interest in women’s studies.
Tutor information
Dr Angie Smith has a first class degree in Art History and a PhD in Combined Historical Studies from London University. She spent many years teaching undergraduate and adult education programmes for Leicester University. She is an accredited lecturer with the Arts
Society, has published widely, contributed to history programmes on tv and lectured for several cruise lines. Her interest outside history and art include gardening and genealogy.
