The Third in our Cultural Craft Series: Tatted Snowflakes
A beginner’s day workshop, learning some of the basic techniques of needle Tatting to make your very own snowflake with an introduction to the history and culture of the time through a presentation, background music and a taste of historic recipes. In this workshop, you will learn the very basics of a style of lacemaking called Needle Tatting to create a small snowflake through a series of repeated loops and bridges.
There will also be an introduction to the history of tatting and its origins, the culture surrounding this lace and the development as it continued through history.
This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners to lacemaking with only a few techniques needed to create a wide variety of styles.
Rebecca has always been fascinated by the intricate details in life, particularly in art, historic costumes and textiles.
After studying (ND) Textiles and (BA Hons) Costume Interpretation, she realised that, although she loved learning the history behind period costumes and textile techniques, her favourite part of creating the costumes was the surface embellishment: primarily lacemaking, embroidery and beading.
After teaching in London for several years, she returned to Somerset to pursue what she is most passionate about – classes combining textile techniques with the history and culture behind them.
Rebecca hopes to help keep these alive for the next generation.
