A series of sewing courses, each one building your skills and confidence.

Design and Make a Paper Pattern.

This course is aimed at students who enjoy dressmaking and would like to learn more about making their own paper patterns and creating their own designs. Students are required to bring a photograph or sketch of the design that they would like to make a paper pattern for. This can be for either a dress, skirt or blouse / top.  Students will learn the techniques of transferring their ideas from a photo or sketch into a paper pattern used to construct the garment. Students who have covered the previous courses where a block was drafted to fit themselves, can bring their own block. New students may use a standard size block copied from the tutor.

This course is aimed at students who enjoy sewing and would like to learn more about making their own paper patterns, creating their own designs to suit their figure. This course will cover; changing dart positions, incorporating seam lines, gathers, flared skirts, patterns for shirt collars, cuffs and pockets including patch and welt.

Students will have covered one of the previous courses where a block was drafted to fit themselves, can bring their own block. New students may use a standard size block copied from the tutor.

You will need to bring your sewing machine to the course.

Accommodation can be booked, subject to availability.

 

Tutor information

Jenny Harrison has been a tutor of Soft Furnishings for more than 15 years, she has a Certificate in Education and has taught to Level 3 City and Guilds at local colleges. In the past she has written articles for Sewing World Magazine. Currently she runs her own classes privately for dressmaking and also offers a bespoke soft furnishing design service to private clients.
