Description

This course is part of Dillington Discovery Summer/Autumn week.

Join us on a musical journey, taking in a selection of the key works in the history of music.  Some are rightly popular, some perhaps not quite as familiar as they should be, but all will repay the most detailed exploration.

Once again, we shall be focussing on ten musical masterpieces by ten major composers, who represent five different nations – Germany, Hungary, Italy, Bohemia (Czechoslovakia), and Britain. The composers will include J.S. Bach, Dvorak, Elgar and Verdi, and a wide range of genres will be covered – opera, oratorio, ballet and more. We shall experience the music using cd and dvd, in performances by many of the great musicians of our time.

Each day will cover two different composers.   Together we will dig deeper to discover what is so special about each one – what it is that makes listeners and performers alike want to return to them again and again. From Russia in the East to the Americas in the west, we shall experience the incredible richness and diversity of our cultural inheritance.

Course runs from Dinner on Sunday to Lunch on Friday.
