Description

These courses are part of Dillington Discovery Winter/Spring week.

We know that a painting is more than just a coloured-in drawing, but how do we do it? What exactly is the difference between drawing and painting? This workshop explores the gulf between drawing and painting and then seeks to build a bridge between the two disciplines. From studies in black and white, we will take a short step to the tonal properties of colour before exploring that magical moment when, as Francis Bacon said, “the image is the paint and vice-versa”.

All-comers welcome.

Wednesday to Friday – Paint
(finishes at lunch on Friday)
Our world is replete with colour, light, texture and form. From apples on a table to sunlight on a mountain, the artist unravels all of these elements and convincingly daubs them onto paper or canvas. But just how is it done? For many of us, though colour is a part of our daily lives, it nevertheless remains a mystery and the work that the artist does seems little short of magic.

This practical two and half day course will provide you with all you need to experience the visual world with greater understanding and work some of that magic yourself! Topics covered: colour perception, colour-mixing (subtractive and additive); hue, shade, tint and chroma.

Wednesday to Friday – Non-resident fee £154.
