Monday Lunch & Lecture – Much More Than Merely Matchstick Men: The Profound Art of L S Lowry
Lowry’s work is so familiar to many of us that we may overlook his remarkable productivity and talent when we see his deceptively simple matchstick men.
This well-illustrated talk seeks to appreciate the artist as someone far more deserving of our admiration than his curious scurrying figures might suggest. With a wide selection of his works from every decade of his long artistic career, this survey should help to refute any suggestion that his pictures are as simple as they first appear to be – and there are even some surprises that will make you think again about Lowry’s remarkable imagination.
Includes lunch. Lunch is served from 1pm and lecture begins at 2pm.
