This course is suitable for anyone who has basic sewing skills, is keen on dressmaking and would like to learn the techniques to make a simple dress from a commercial pattern. The starting point will be to take body measurements then select the correct size/sizes of the pattern to cut out the dress. This will ensure a correct fit, this is often the stumbling point for many amateur dressmakers, which often results in a garment being too big or small.

Various methods of zip applications, seam and hem finishes will be covered, as well as other professional methods and techniques.

Ideal for students who want to make professionally finished garments will find this course beneficial. This course aims to encourage students to get the best results by using professional techniques, learning how to alter and get the correct fit from their paper pattern, which is the foundation to making a successful garment.

You will need to bring your own sewing machine, a simple dress pattern with a suitable fabric to make it in, along with all the haberdashery needed as listed on the back of the pattern.
