Description

Stanley Spencer was one of the most prolific and popular English artists of the 20th century.

This talk will explore his life and work and that of his first wife Hilda Carline, using a colourful slide show of dozens of paintings and photographs, as well as commentary and poems.

Two Girls and a Beehivea collaborative collection of poems by Rosie Jackson and (the late) Graham Burchell, came out from Two Rivers Press in 2020, raising issues about art, spirituality, love, war and sexual politics. They draw on Spencer’s own writing and letters as well as his biography. Annie Freud has called the collection ‘a masterpiece.’

Includes lunch. Lunch is served from 1pm and lecture begins at 2pm.
