A one-day course designed for beginners, and for those wanting to refresh existing knowledge. We will look at the core ideas underpinning Mindfulness, including short periods of meditation practice in its various forms.

This course provides the perfect introduction for those curious about the growing swell of enthusiastic support for the benefits of Mindfulness in dealing with the challenges of modern living.

During this one-day workshop we will explore:

  • The principles of meditation and mindfulness.
  • The emotional and physcial benefits of a regular practice.
  • High level concepts of neuroplasticiy, the nervous system, the brain waves and some of the scientifc research supporting the benefits.
  • A variety of different meditation sytles and mindfulness techniques.
  • How to go about establishing an ongoing practice – for those that would like too.

Everyone is welcome to sit on chairs for the practices -those wishing to sit on the floor might like to bring cushions and blankets.

Tutor information

Bev Alderson, through her business Practically Balanced, works with individuals, groups and workplaces wanting to take a positive approach to wellbeing. She previously worked in IT management, in the UK and Australia.  Here she learnt first-hand the impacts of a high-pressure environment and lifestyle and how, left unchecked, these can negatively impact health. Bev completed a Diploma in Yoga with Qi Yoga, Sydney.  A Certificate in Stress Management with the London Centre for Coaching and Counselling & an ILM with the Stress Management Society, a Diploma in Mindfulness with the British School of Meditation and a Diploma in Nutrition with Gateway.
