This course is part of Dillington Discovery Winter week.

Our response to colour is direct and emotional. The natural world is replete with it, we cover our homes in it, our TV screens and devices are a-dazzle with it and we even dress ourselves in it, but many of us don’t actually think that deeply about colour at all. For the artist, however, colour has always represented an especial challenge.

In this practical, one and a half day course, we will study colour’s rich social and cultural history, its geography and its language. We will also learn how artists in previous centuries found ways to master it, explore our own personal perception of colour and most importantly, develop a meaningful relationship with its enduring mysteries.

Thursday and Friday Morning
“The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” Michelangelo Buonarotti
To achieve their bold, bright effects, twentieth century artists used a painting technique employed by Michelangelo on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, that he in turn had adapted from artists working 200 years earlier! In this one and half day course, we learn how to banish shadow from our work and suffuse our art with colour like a modern master.

Thursday to Friday Morning – Non-resident fee £122.
