Description

There are two main styles in traditional Chinese brush painting techniques: freehand style and meticulous style. Freehand style painting is known as literati painting or in Chinese “:Xieyi”, meaning write an idea. The Chinese painting technique of the artist scholar is more interested in personal expression than accuracy and details. This flower and bird course for beginners will start from basic skills from holding brush properly, mixing ink and colours, painting plum flower petals, branches and bird. Also, bamboo and leaves. The tutor will conduct the course with brief introduction, subject demonstration and individual supervision, in a relaxing and active atmosphere.

This practical course covers the basic skills of painting flower and bird in freehand style, such as: camellia, daffodil, wisteria and sparrow, the course will give students the chance to try out the techniques and materials used as well as looking at the culture behind the art. Kaili will help students learn how to hold the brush and mix different colours on to it.

The course will also include some demonstration and individual supervision. No experience beginners and intermediates are welcome.

Tutor information

Kaili Fu, an art graduate from A university in East China, was a Chinese art teacher in China. After coming to England in 1988, she started teaching Chinese brush painting to Adult classes and exhibiting her art work in Devon, the South West and later throughout the UK. She is recognised as a specialist in authentic Chinese brush painting as well as an inspiring tutor. Kaili feels her lifelong purpose is to introduce and extend knowledge of traditional Chinese painting and techniques to the West. Kaili could teach students of various levels. she approaches her course with professionalism and flexibility.
