Description

Botanical Illustration is precise detailed work, a combination of art and science.  The course will cover the use of basic materials and methods for beginners and will offer professional advice to advanced students. The emphasis will be on individual development.

This studio based watercolour course is for all ability levels: no experience of art or botany is required, just commitment. We aim to enjoy working in an atmosphere of relaxed industry. Students will work at their own pace on the subject of their choice.

Course runs from Lunch on Monday to Lunch on Thursday.

Tutor information

Susan Hillier is an established illustrator and botanical painter, who has exhibited widely and has had several solo exhibitions. She has illustrated plant and gardening books and worked as a scientific illustrator at Kew Gardens. Susan has RHS medals and has recorded orchids for the RHS. Recently she completed many illustrations for seven gardening books by Alan Titchmarsh. She is a founder member of the Society of Botanical Artists and teaches on their Diploma course. Susan enjoys teaching and has extensive experience teaching art at all levels.
