Description

Try out and explore two contrasting bookbinding structures. The Crossed-Structure binding, from Carmencho Arregui, is simple yet full of potential. Flexible and endlessly variable, it works well with a variety of materials. We’ll look at a range of styles within the technique, and perhaps work on some new ones of our own.
The Tight Back, Cut Flush structure, developed by David Sellars is, in contrast, a rigid spine and flush-edged binding creating good opportunities for cover and edge decoration. Challenging but effective it will draw on a different skill set. Prepare to have some fun!
Residential Fees From: £694.   Non Residential: £464

Nesta studied bookbinding at the London College of Printing and City Lit. She set up her own studio, Leafwork, in north London and, following a move to Dorset now has a garden studio where she works and runs courses. Teaching has always been an important part of her work and she enjoys it immensely. She was for many years tutor-coordinator of Bookbinding at City Lit, London, where she still teaches, and was commissioning editor of The New Bookbinder from 2001 – 2012. She is currently on the committee for SoB Western Region and joint organiser for the 2020-21 series of DB/SoB Joint Workshops.
