Antiques Explored – Love, Honour & eBay Followed by Dealers Dilemma
A morning course with lunch for anyone with an interest in antiques or the history of our country.
Most people have heard of Bill Gates but who on earth is Pierre Omidyar? He is the architect of the most important commercial website ever created. His global site has transformed the lives of many millions of people and eBay is a household name. However, little is known about the unusual Mr Omidyar and how this site came to be created – and the pitfalls and narrow misses experienced along the way.
This course comprises two distinct parts. Firstly, a slide assisted lecture – The Fascinating Story of the Origins of eBay.
Followed by Dealers Dilemma in which you are a dealer and invited to attend a stall sale comprising a wide range of things, most of which are inconsequential (junk) but some of which are collectable pieces. Each of the items on the table is priced at £1. For many of the items this is about right, some are worth less – but a several are worth more! Your task is to ‘buy’ 3 items that you suspect command the highest prices. Having committed yourself to your purchases, the collectable items are identified and put into historical context, and the values declared. (The values are based on eBay prices.) Then follows speedy calculations. The dealer that makes the most (or loses the least!) is the winner!
