This study day begins with an illustrated survey of the history of Amsterdam from its beginnings until 1900, focussing on its ‘Golden Age’ in the 1600s.

We will examine the cityscapes of the 17th century and also some of the artists associated with the city including the Amsterdam Impressionists and the Amsterdamse Joffers.

Tutor information

Angie Smith has a first-class degree in Art History and a PhD in Combined Historical Studies. She has more than a decade’s experience teaching undergraduates and taking adult education classes for Leicester University. She is an accredited NADFAS lecturer, has contributed articles to many scholarly journals and has published several books including A Timeline of Art History.
