Description

2021 is the seventieth anniversary of the completion of the Rosary Chapel at Vence in Southern France, a project which Henri Matisse considered his finest creation.

Along with Picasso, Matisse is credited with the revolutionising of twentieth-century European art. We examine his whole career, from Fauvism to his wonderful coloured cut-outs, with a particular emphasis on his paintings. A consummate draughtsman with a simplicity of line, in seven decades of production he gave us some of the world’s greatest images.
